A round trip Denmark - Sweden - Norway

This trip was a quick tour through a part of Scandinavia. Flew to Copenhagen, Denmark by plane, whereafter I continued the travel by train. The end point was Oslo, Norway from where I flew back home. In between everything was done by train. This really was a different experience and quite tiring, but at the same time quite alright. The places where I stopped were mainly Malmö, Lund, Stockholm and Oslo.

Malmö

Malmo, Sweden, is a vibrant city known for its cultural diversity, modern architecture, and scenic waterfront. Some must-visit attractions include the Turning Torso, Ribersborgsstranden beach, Malmo Castle, and the historic Gamla Väster district. Don’t forget to explore the city’s culinary scene. And that’s what I did for the short time I stayed there. Wanted to go for Pinkhead HQ, but the there was no place. Ended up at Namu, which was quite the experience.

Namu is a Korean restaurant located in Malmö, Sweden. In the vibrant Gamla Staden area. It’s known for serving delicious Korean cuisine and is also a Michelin restaurant. If you are up for eating with your hands, you should definitely check this place out!

Lund

There are several reasons to visit Lund, Sweden:

1. Historic Architecture: Explore Lund’s well-preserved medieval buildings, including Lund Cathedral, one of Sweden’s oldest and most impressive cathedrals.

Grand Hotel Lund

The Grand Hotel Lund is a luxurious boutique hotel located in the heart of Lund, Sweden. Overall, the Grand Hotel Lund offers a luxurious and sophisticated experience for visitors to Lund, combining historic elegance with modern comforts.

Elite hotel Ideon

Another hotel I started my stay with was the Elite Hotel Ideon. It is a state of the art and comfortable hotel. It offers comfortable rooms, flexible conference rooms, and a gym and sauna. The hotel is an inviting meeting place in Lund with two restaurants and lobby bar. I can’t remember a place where I have slept so well than the Elite Hotel Ideon!! The bed was very very comfy.

Travelling by train is quite doable. You have to take into account the time that you also have to wait at an airport for example. At the end it almost evens out. Depending on where you are of course and how much time you have to wait. The question remains: How to travel through Scandinavia by train?

I have used the application Omio to book my train tickets in Scandinavia. This was easy to use and very straightforward. Omio offers a multi-mode search tool that compares and combines rail, air, bus, and car for destinations. This does not want to say it is suited for every country. It is for yourself to see what suits you best.

The tool is designed to suggest nearby airports and train routes connect up where they would like to go and also estimating the entire length of travel time. After pulling in diverse data sources to offer various route options, Omio also makes it easier to visualize which routes are better and compare the cost of different travel options, displaying a comparative chart based on what is the cheapest or fastest. The platform does not include urban public transport options in any market such as buses but rather is designed for helping travelers make long-distance travel plans. Took me from Lund to Stockholm with ease.

Stockholm

Stockholm’s Old Town, also known as Gamla Stan, is a must-visit for its charming cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, historic landmarks like the Royal Palace, and quaint cafes and shops. It offers a glimpse into the city’s medieval past and is a hub of culture, history, and architecture. Plus, it’s conveniently located in the heart of the city, making it easily accessible and a perfect starting point for exploring Stockholm. Furthermore, from sleeping on a yacht in the captain's cabin to visiting Johan & Nyström at Swedenborgsgatan 7, Stockholm with the best coffee to looking for the best Harry Potter attributes in the old centre. A lot is possible in Stockholm's Old Town. And when you are tired of walking, you just visit Under Kastanjen to take a rest and eat something.

You will be safe there.

After my stay in Stockholm I have travelled by train again. This time the travel went from Stockholm to Oslo, Norway. Again I have used the Omio application <-- (affiliate) for convenience.

Oslo

Visiting Oslo city center offers a blend of cultural, historical, and modern attractions. You can explore iconic landmarks like the Royal Palace, Parliament, and the bustling Karl Johans gate. The city center also boasts world-class museums such as the Nobel Peace Center and the National Gallery, housing famous works like Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.” Plus, you can enjoy shopping in trendy boutiques, savoring Norwegian cuisine in cozy cafes, and experiencing the vibrant nightlife. Overall, Oslo center provides a rich tapestry of experiences for visitors to immerse themselves in Norwegian culture and history.

I went for a great evening with live music at Sommero. Before going for dinner at their Ekspedisjonshallen restaurant, I went for a rooftop bar & terrace Izakaya. 'Relaxed Japanese inspired street food and cocktail bar located at Sommerro. The place is run by the award-winning chef Frida Ronge, and has a rich selection of sake, cocktails and mocktails.
If you are hungry, Izakaya also offers both smaller side dishes and snacks, as well as main-course meals.
The elegant interior was designed by GrecoDeco, a design studio based in New York and London. With its location on the seventh floor, you get a beautiful view of the Frogner neighbourhood, the fjord and the fields surrounding the city.

After the great start at Izakaya I went downstairs to the all-day dining spot Ekspedisjonshallen. 'Ekspedisjonshallen is your local neighbourhood living room serving up classic brasserie-style favourites against an original wall fresco by artist Per Krohg. Familiar, laidback and with a backdrop of jazz music by our house band, accompanied by guest vocalists, this is the perfect place to set up an office away from home, to gather for a quick working breakfast, a long lazy weekend brunch, or dinner with friends. At Ekspedisjonshallen, anything goes, so come on in, our doors are always open.'

 Grand Hotel Oslo

The Grand Hotel Oslo is an iconic landmark in the heart of Oslo, known for its luxurious accommodations and rich history. Established in 1874, it has hosted numerous dignitaries, celebrities, and Nobel Peace Prize laureates over the years. Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring Oslo’s attractions, with many sights within walking distance. Whether for a leisurely stay or a special occasion, the Grand Hotel Oslo promises a memorable experience in the Norwegian capital.

Close to Grand Hotel Oslo there is a lovely place called 'Olivia EGER'. 'It is a Rome-inspired italian restaurant by Karl Johan. Olivia EGER is located in the centre of the busy Karl Johans gate in the heart of Oslo, on Egertorget.
With its location among many shops and shopping streets, Olivia EGER is an ideal place for a lunch break or a dinner after shopping. The restaurant extends over three floors and can accommodate almost 500 guests inside, as well as a separate lower floor for private events.

Last but not least, a visit to the Paradox Museum and a look at pegged as one of the fastest electric cars in the world by Nio, the EP9 is promised to be quick to say the least. Which were also part of the visit. Many things I do not have any pictures of unfortunately.

At the end of the trip I took the train from Oslo station to the airport. At the airport I flew back home again.
